Guest artist Richard Smith of www.RichardSmithMusic.com will be performing and talking about Chet Atkins and the Travis pickin' style of guitar.
At age eleven Richard performed on stage with Chet Atkins and they became close friends. Richard Smith won the National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas, in 2001. The National Thumbpickers Hall of Fame named him Thumbpicker of the Year in 2008 and inducted him into the Hall of Fame in 2009. Furthermore, Richard received the Golden Thumbpick Award by the Association of Fingerstyle Guitarists.
The talented young musicians for the night's program were:
Noel King will start the night performing Greensleeves, Salty Dog, and Worried Man Blues. Skyler and Zoe Haines are next playing a 1899 duet Mascarita. Andrew Wilkinson continues the acoustic vibe by performing Whisky Before Breakfast and Dust In The Wind. Caeley Holden continues the night playing her original composition Smile as well as the electric tune Popcorn. Zachary Sloan continues the electric side of the night with John Mayer's Slow Dancing In A Burning Room and a blues jam. Spencer Carlson is next laying down the groove on John Mayer's Gravity and the Door's People Are Strange. Continuing on are Niraj Singh and Chris Puckett performing more originals from Niraj's catalog. Closing out the first part of the night will be Si Cantwell performing an original composition Bogus Bach.
